…anything!!
Between email and Facebook and texting, the amount of human interaction we have in any given day is dwindling in a depressing way. Instead of knowing when people have birthdays and doing the old fashioned call-them-to-tell-them-happy-birthday routine, we just wait for Facebook to tell us that someone has a birthday and then…we go write on their wall.
Our great-grandparents would be sickened by the amount of anti-interaction we have with the people we know. They would sit us down and tell us how they would travel uphill both ways for seventeen and a half miles in a snow storm to tell their friend happy birthday, because they didn’t even have phones, dammit! Ok so that might be an over-dramatization. But that doesn’t remove the fact that we don’t talk to people anymore.

Ok so you don’t have to be as close and friendly as those guys, but that doesn’t mean you should try to be! You don’t need to be joined at the hip with people in order to acknowledge them as people.
So instead of taking the easy way out and writing a “Hello” or “Happy Birthday” message on someone’s Facebook, call them instead (or maybe even go see them…dun dun dun…) and let them know that you care enough to take three extra minutes to let them know that you know that they exist in the real world and not just in the virtual one.
p.s. I swear I’m not being hypocritical because there is an actual celebration happening today, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY MISS JAMIE!!!

Only the celebration. 🙂 You can bike to my house on Monday to tell me in person lol
Ok I will!
